verdict

Choose PlayroomKit if…

  • You want a drop-in lobby UI and party-game features out of the box.
  • You build Discord Activities and want their specific helpers.

Choose Multiplayer API if…

  • You need server-validated state with declared rules (rates, ranges, monotonic scores, server-only fields) and peer attestation for results.
  • You want persistent accounts, inventory and leaderboards in the same API.
  • You want WebRTC peer-to-peer to keep realtime traffic off servers.
migration

Moving from PlayroomKit: what maps to what

  • Player state → room.mine(key, value) writes under players.<me>; read others with room.state.get or watch.
  • Global state → shared state paths such as world.*, guarded by rules (write: "host", rate, min/max).
  • Room codes → mp.create() returns a six-character room.code; friends call mp.join(code).
  • Lobby UI → yours to design; the API gives you members, host and phase (lobby, playing, ended).

The concepts are covered in full in the documentation and in llms-full.txt, which a coding agent can use to do the port for you.

Questions
Which is better for a web party game?

If the lobby UI is the main need, PlayroomKit is quick. If you care about cheat-resistant state and persistent progression, the Multiplayer API gives you more control.
